Louisville, KY Dentist
Get to Know Dr. James Garland
Dr. Garland loves giving people confidence in their smiles and helping his patients avoid the discomfort associated with poor oral health. When oral health complications happen, his only focus is stopping someone’s pain so they can get back to focusing on what they care about in life. His mission as a dentist in Louisville is to make sure your smile only improves your day-to-day experience and never holds you back.
Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
Dr. Garland says that he has medicine in his blood. His mother is a former dental hygienist, his father is an ophthalmologist, his grandfather was a dentist, his great-uncle was also a dentist, and his uncle is an oral surgeon. When he was 16, he had a terrible infection in a tooth while he was on vacation. What should have been a week of fun in the sun in Mexico turned into a nightmare of tooth pain. When he got back home, he had a great dental appointment that really helped, and he decided that dentistry was something he would do to serve people just like him while also continuing his family’s tradition of healthcare.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Garland graduated from Emory University before going on to earn his dental degree from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. Since then, he has completed continuing education through the world-renowned Misch Implant Institute and Braebon “Sleep Doctors” Sleep Apnea Training. He is also Invisalign certified and a member of the American Dental Association.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Dr. Garland grew up in Panama City, FL, where he worked in a guitar store while in high school maintaining and building instruments (which often required the same technical skills he uses as a dentist these days). When not in the office, you’ll usually find him at home spending quality time with his wife or brewing his own beer, cider, and mead.
